Understand what each protective device does and the information your electrician or consultant needs before specifying it.

Three different jobs

An MCB protects against overload and short circuit. An RCCB monitors leakage current. An RCBO combines overcurrent and residual-current protection in one device.

Selection is system-specific

Poles, current rating, curve, breaking capacity and leakage sensitivity must suit the circuit and design. Follow the consultant's schedule and applicable standards.

Distribution-board compatibility

Confirm module width, busbar arrangement, enclosure capacity and brand compatibility before ordering a mixed bill of materials.

What to send for a quote

Share the single-line diagram, DB schedule, quantities and preferred makes. This reduces assumptions and speeds comparison.

This article provides general procurement guidance. Final product selection should follow the project design, applicable standards and advice from a qualified electrical professional.
